After a great deal of procrastination I have decided to start running. All my friends do it, even work colleagues do it, so I thought I should join them.
You may wonder why the blog is called This Girl Can't Run. Well, let me tell you a little about me and my fitness levels. It will be very little as on a scale of 1 - 10 I score around - 10! It hasn't always been so, as I loved Karate in my 30's, I even competed in competitions. But time and laziness took over and reaching 50 it was time to challenge myself to get fit and slim once again.
I have decided to write this blog, mainly so that I can keep going, as a sort of diary, so I can look back and see how I have improved. I am using the NHS Couch to 5K program, of which the first week is a gentle introduction. Err - did I just say Gentle? I never knew that one minute could actually last so long, and 90 seconds could go so quickly!
Armed with two work friends and now running buddies as well as a pair of twins and a rather mad dog, my mobile and earphones off we set. The first warm up walk was great, it was when the jogging bit started that I struggled. Given that there would be 7 more short runs I started to wonder what the heck I was actually doing! The warm down was fun, chatting away without a care in the world - well the others were, I was just panting uncontrollably. With the amazing encouragement of said friends I made it. Although I was a little pink, OK I was magenta coloured, on my return, I have to admit that I actually enjoyed it.
I will do this, I can do this, I just need to keep going. On to run number 2.
